We recently completed a major roof replacement that required a full tear-off of four layers of asphalt shingles and one layer of original cedar shake. Over time, additional roofing layers had been installed without removing the previous materials, adding excessive weight and hiding structural concerns beneath the surface.
Once everything was removed down to the framing, we found that the roof did not have solid sheathing suitable for modern shingles. To properly support the new roofing system, we installed OSB decking across the entire roof, creating a strong, code-compliant foundation.

EPDM Installation on Porch Roof
This home also featured a small flat porch roof. Because the property is located within the Rochester, NY Historic District, materials must meet local approval standards.
We installed a small EPDM roofing system over the porch, as EPDM is an approved material for flat roofs within the historic district. This ensures long-term waterproofing while remaining compliant with local guidelines.

This project transformed an overloaded, outdated roofing system into a structurally sound, code-compliant roof built for long-term protection. With new decking, proper waterproofing, and durable Onyx Black shingles, the home is now protected and visually refreshed.
